Le Marais

This blog is about discovering Paris, but it's more about what it's like to take the unconventional route in doing so. What it's like for once to skip the orthodox "5 days/4 nights" routine; and experience the essentially local, authentic, down-to-earth Parisien life.

Wikipedia describes Le Marais as the long aristocratic district of Paris hosting many outstanding buildings with historic and architectural importance. Today's Marais, then again, is characterized as a 'renovated' 'fashionable' district; home to many trendy restaurants, fashion houses, and hype galleries.

Personal experience confirms that all of the above is simply... correct. That is; if you can really break the "3/4 star-hotel-in-city-center" routine and actually rent a flat for yourself in Marais, you can practically be the 4-night resident of the top floor of an art gallery.

Life in Marais is sweet, with its lovely, surprising perks... the late night walks you can take up-and-down the narrow, connecting Paris streets... never getting enough of the inspirational street art at every corner on your way, no matter how much you stroll... all that enchanting charm, style and coolness simply oozing in the air... You'll cry inside (or out, for that matter) when it's time to leave.
